More details about the next Samsung Galaxy Note-series handset have emerged alongside a new dual-edge display variant codenamed Project Zen.

Samsung is said to launch just one Galaxy Note smartphone this year unlike last year that saw both Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Samsung Galaxy Note Edge launch at the same event. Currently rumoured to launch as Galaxy Note 5, it is expected to feature a 2K (1600×2560) or 4K (2160×3840) Super AMOLED display while being powered by the firm’s own Exynos 7422 processor. SamMobile citing people familiar with the matter claims that the Exynos 7422 might be the South Korean company’s first all-in-one solution, which will include the CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, and modem on a single chip.

One of the people familiar with the matter also claimed that Samsung is internally testing Galaxy Note 5 units with a newer Exynos 7430 chipset but might not launch that version in commercial markets. Similarly, the report adds Samsung is working on various prototypes of the Galaxy Note 5 with different displays – 2K as well as 4K.

The report adds the dual-edge display variant of the Galaxy Note 5 is said to be codenamed Project Zen, and will not exactly sport high-end specifications. The handset is said to feature a 5.4 or 5.5-inch Super AMOLED dual-edge curved display; hexa-core processor (Snapdragon 808); 16-megapixel rear camera with OIS; 8-megapixel front camera, and S Pen support. The report however doesn’t mention any launch time-frame for the Project Zen handset.

Considering the devices are still in early development and there might be several changes ahead of the official launch.

A Samsung executive last month claimed that the next Galaxy Note might sport a dual-edge display. Preliminary leaks have suggested that apart from the Galaxy Note 5; the dual-edge display variant may be called the Galaxy Note 5 Edge, or the Note Edge 2 – though the latter seems unlikely given it will no longer be a ‘limited edition concept
