It is Derby Day! Thousands of people, including the Queen, have flocked to Surrey.

There is road closures around the Epsom Downs as police deal with increased traffic.

However, officers say they are working with the racecourse to prevent crime and disruption to the local area.

Following months of preparation and planning, in conjunction with Epsom Downs Racecourse, officers and staff say they are ready to welcome visitors to the largest annual gathering of people in Surrey.

The event can attract up to 150,000 visitors.

Yesterday was Ladies Day, but today is the big one,  with the Investec Derby watched by approximately 200 million people worldwide.

To manage traffic demands and minimise disruption to the residents of Epsom, many roads around Epsom Downs will have temporary alterations.

Waterloo Road will be closed around Epsom Railway Station as part of plans to accommodate all visitors arriving in the centre of Epsom on Derby Day.

Traffic is also likely to remain slow around Station Approach during peak hours.
