Girls secure top three ranks in Punjab Class 12 exams

The Punjab Board of School Education (PSEB) scheduled the results for Senior Secondary examination 2015 in two phases, on May 11 and May 12. On Monday, the board declared the statistics of the Class 12 results, which included the subject-wise pass percentage, pass percentage for rural and urban areas, number of girls and boys who cleared the exams, etc. The board is expected to release the candidates’ individual results today.

According to the notice published by PSEB at its official website, the top three ranks in the Senior Secondary examination have been bagged by girls. This is a repeat feat from last year by the girl students. The first rank was shared by Darshveer Kaur Kalsi, a student of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana and Saima Rashid, a student of Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Ropar. Both the schoolgirls are from the Science stream and have achieved a perfect score of 100 percent.

Sarika, a Humanities student of BCM Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana has come second with a score of 99.78 percent. The third spot was rounded off by Kajal Tandon of RSM School, who scored 99.56 percent.

The state has recorded a pass percentage of 76.24 percent. This year, approximately 3.5 lakh students appeared for the exams, out of this 1.97 lakh were girls and 1.52 lakh were boys.

The girl students have a pass percentage of 80.26 percent, and with a considerable gap the pass percentage of boy students stands at 70.73 percent. The pass percentage of urban and rural students did not see any major difference, with a score of 76.05 percent and 76.41 percent respectively
