Back in 2017 I wrote a blog post called “The Best Paved Trails in the World are in … Ohio“, which is all about the Miami Valley Trails network in Ohio.
Do I still support that assertion? Maybe.
The Miami Valley Trails network can be found near Dayton in the southeast corner of Ohio. Over 350 miles of paved trails make up the network—all 350 miles! Since Horace Huffman, a co-founder of the Dayton Cycling Club, first proposed paved trails for the area in 1961, the network has been in the works. The 14 distinct trails connect to create a variety of options for loop rides. The trails are generally flat, smooth, scenic, and well-maintained. On our 2019 skating and biking tour in the area with 39 alumni travelers, we heard from this knowledgeable group that these were the world’s best paved trails.
Eight years later, do I still think Ohio has the best paved trail network in the world? The Little Miami Trails are without a doubt the largest network of paved trails in the United States. There are now tours in Germany and Iowa that rival Ohio’s trails. However, I would argue that Ohio’s network of paved trails ranks among the top three in the world. I’ll leave you with my own thoughts in the video below, from 2017, but please consider joining us for our next Ohio Skating & Biking Adventure, September 17-21, 2026!
