The first step in building a library in your home is to find the best place for it. You should not focus only on the space that is the biggest. A library does not necessarily have to be big to be functional.
Try to find a place that is well lit and that is quiet. Depending on your preference, it can be a guest bedroom that you have turned into a library or even the basement. It is absolutely up to you and there are no wrong choices.
You should keep in mind that this will be your spot, the place where you will go to relax and soak up the knowledge contained all around you, so make sure that you are happy with your choice before you proceed. This might come as a shock to some of you, but libraries are really not only for reading. If anything, I spend more time not reading in my library than I do reading. It is a perfect place for all sort of activities such as relaxing, working or just soaking up the peace that comes with having one.
My daughter loves to spend time here and she occasionally just comes in and starts opening random books. It used to irritate me at first, but I realized that this is how her curiosity will grow and now we spend hours just flipping through books.
