Central Board of Secondary Education has devised an interesting activity to strengthen the memory and vocabulary of students. A cryptic crossword contest will be held for students of Class 11 and Class 12 in two phases, a city round and a national round.
The competition would involve two students from each school who will have to solve a written cryptic crossword puzzle in a time span of 60 minutes. The winning team along with the first runners up team will receive certificates and prizes. The contest would begin from May and would continue till September. Ludhiana will be seen holding this contest on August 5, while the two day national round will be held in New Delhi.
The 16 teams that qualify for the semi-final round would be placed in four groups of four teams. They would be given a task to participate and solve cryptic puzzles based on a power point format.
The qualifying teams would then reach the quarter-final round, where teams would have to solve a written cryptic puzzle.
Groups of students who clear this round will be promoted straight to the final round which will be held at a national level. The students along with one school escort will be reimbursed with a second class rail fare since they would be competing and representing their schools on a national platform.
The winners of the national level round will receive prizes worth Rs 25,000 each along with trophies and participation and winning certificates. National runners-up would not be far behind as they will receive prizes worth Rs 15,000 each with trophies and certificates.
The city round winners should not be disheartened as they will become recipients of trophies and certificates as well.
