The Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination (HSEE) was held on April 26 this year.

The results of this examination have been declared by Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Students can check their results on the official website of IIT, Madras.

HSEE is conducted for taking admission in integrated Master of Arts (M.A) in Development Studies and integrated M.A in English Studies programmes for each academic year.

The HSEE examination is three hours long. It is divided in two parts. The first part covers English and comprehension skill, analytical and quantitative ability, general studies covering the areas of Indian economics, Indian society, contemporary world affairs and Environment and Ecology. The questions are objective type and multiple-choice based. The second part involves writing an essay on a general topic involving description, reflection and/or discussion.

The HSEE Department is essentially multi-disciplinary in nature. It has faculty from diverse streams, such as Development Studies, Economics, English, Environmental Studies, Film Studies, Health Studies, History, International Relations, Philosophy, Politics and Sociology. The Departments offer doctoral programmes in humanities and social sciences besides elective courses for the undergraduate. The Department has also been offering a Masters of Arts programme since 2006-07. This course has opened many avenues for highly motivated students in arts and humanities to enter IIT Madras
