A survey conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council has revealed that India is one of the top five preferred countries for pursuing MBA. Usually students pursuing graduate management internationally prefer foreign countries, with US being on top of the list. However, this report has put India in the top slots and it is now ahead of Australia, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong and Netherlands.

The survey questioned almost 12,000 respondents across 30 countries who registered on www.mba.com from October 2013 up to September 2014. Prospective students were put into three groups based on their career goals- aspiring entrepreneurs(28 percent), career enhancers(34 percent) and career switchers(38 percent).

Individuals planning to start their own business are up from 19 percent five years ago to 28 percent now. Respondents in Central and South Asia(43 percent), Latin America(45 percent) and Africa(44 percent) formed the major part of this segment.

The study shows that students choose their business school based on programmes offered, quality of faculty, fee structure and placement opportunities. Rankings were not the main criteria for their decision. Also, more than half of the future students sought to study internationally.

The top global locations are UK(6 percent), Canada(5 percent), India and France(3 percent each), Honk Kong, Germany and Singapore(2 percent each) and Netherlands(1 percent).

According to the interest displayed by the respondents across more than 25 MBA and specialised business master’s program options, 26 percent are considering both degree types.

The prospective students said that they wish to study outside their own country for an international career. They are interested in learning a global culture and developing their interpersonal skills for the MNC(multinational companies) world.

Though the US  is down in popularity from 73 percent in 2010 to only 66 percent, it still remains the most preferred destination for studying MBA in the world
