Jeep is preparing to launch an all-black version of the Compass called the “Black Pack” edition, for the Indian market. Kevin Flynn, MD of FCA India, confirmed this to Business Standard, in an interview. Jeep is planning to launch the SUV in the all-black avatar during upcoming festive season. The Jeep Compass “Black Pack” edition will be priced around Rs. 40,000-50,000 higher than the regular variant.
As the name suggests, the “Black Pack” edition of the Compass will have a blacked-out roof, wing mirrors, alloy wheels and also an all-black leather interior. The Jeep Compass “Black Pack” edition will only get aesthetic changes. No mechanical changes will be made to the SUV. Jeep has not confirmed if the Compass “Black Pack” will be a limited edition or a regular model. Speculations point towards a limited production run though.
During the interview, Mr. Flynn also hinted towards the arrival of a new top-end variant of Jeep Compass called the ‘Limited Plus’. This new trim will get new additional features, such as an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, sunroof and a bigger 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. Jeep is planning to launch the Compass ‘Limited Plus’ trim during the festive season.
The Jeep Compass is offered with two engine options and 11 different variants. The petrol engine is a 1.4-litre turbocharged unit, which produces 160 Bhp of peak power and 250 Nm of peak torque. The diesel is a 2.0-litre unit with 170 Bhp and 350 Nm. The SUV’s petrol models get 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic transmissions, and are front-wheel driven. The diesel is sold with front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options while a 6-speed manual gearbox is standard.
Meanwhile, the Jeep Compass Trailhawk will be coming to India in the first quarter of 2019. The Compass Trailhawk is the most hard-core, off-road variant of the SUV and gets power from the 2.0-litre diesel engine, which is paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission as standard. Jeep is testing the BSVI emission norm compatibility of the 9-speed auto box along with a 2.0-litre diesel engine.
