Last month, Asus touted that it was planning to expand its ZenFone family with two more devices, and it is good to see the OEM sticking to its schedule.
The two new additions are dubbed ZenFone 3 Laser and ZenFone 3 Max, and mobile users might have already spotted them in several Asian markets at a price point of under $300.
The Taiwanese OEM delayed a global release for the smartphones, but those looking to purchase a ZenFone 3 Laser in other countries are in luck. A video on Asus’ global YouTube channel suggests that the ZenFone 3 Laser will be available in more markets soon enough.
The video, which features very engaging electronic music, showcases some of the key aspects of the Asus ZenFone 3 Laser. For one thing, the phone comes with a 13 megapixel main sensor that rocks laser auto-focus, giving it a focus speed of only 0.03 seconds, according to the manufacturer.
Thanks to the recent presentation video, Asus fans can get a look at the new device’s design, which is easily recognizable due to its fluid metal body. Security-wise, the handset carries a fingerprint scanner. On the software side, users should know that the ZenFone 3 Laser rocks a preinstalled Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system flavored with the Zen user interface.
It is possible that the ZenFone 3 Laser’s camera (Sony IMX214 sensor) will snap photographs in no time, but it will lose the quality contest compared with sensors from the regular ZenFone 3 and ZenFone 3 Deluxe. This is because the latter two are sporting cameras with Optical Image Stabilization, while the ZenFone 3 Laser’s sensor only benefits from Electronic Image Stabilization.
However, the ZenFone 3 Laser is advertised as being able to take “steady full HD video recording,” which should incentivize users to record all their sportive or anniversary feats.
On the processing power front, the video confirms that the ZenFone 3 Laser will rely on an octa-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz.
The device comes in two color options: silver gray for the casual traditional audience and gold for the posh millennial crowd.
Currently, a lot of the ZenFone 2 models can be officially purchased unlocked in the United States. This leads us to believe that the ZenFone 3 line will share the same treatment, and we will be the first to let you know when it happens.
