Six days after he was caught doing private practice against the rules, Dr BS Bal as replaced as principal of Government Medical College, Amritsar, on Friday. Dr Sohan Singh has been appointed as the new principal.
Dr Bal’s private practice was busted by the vigilance bureau that sent a detailed report to the head office, following which the action was taken by the authorities concerned . The Punjab government had banned private practice by all government doctors in 2003.
Director, medical education and research, Dr Sujata Sharma, however, said, “The government must have taken this step. I am yet to be informed about the same. The government must have done this.”
However, confirming the news, Dr Sohan Singh, the new principal, said, “I will be joining the office tomorrow (Saturday) at 9.15 am. I am happy and hopeful about the tenure.” Dr Sohan Singh is one of the seniormost among faculty at the college.
