The original HTC Grip was cancelled, but an improved version could be released later this year

Earlier this week, we told you that a HTC-made fitness tracker was recently spotted getting its Bluetooth certifications. At first, we thought that the device in question is the the HTC Grip, the fitness tracker that the smartphone maker developed in partnership with clothing company Under Armour and showed off this year at MWC.

As it turns out, a HTC spokesman was recently quoted by Engadget saying that, after “extensive wear testing and user feedback”, the company decided to rework the Grip in order to align the fitness band with its upcoming health and fitness portfolio, one that the company will unveil later this year. This probably means that the original HTC Grips was cancelled, and that an improved version is on its way to the market.
In the light of these recent statements, chances are that the HTC fitness band that was recently discovered in the Bluetooth database is not the original Grip, as we previously believed, but the improved version that will be launched later in the year.
Back when HTC announced the Grip at MWC 2015 this past April, the company said that its first wearable device will be launched in spring. Interestingly, this is the first time that a HTC official commented on the Grip since the device was unveiled, despite the band missing its estimated release date.
