Our Top Travel Articles of 2019

Comments Off on Our Top Travel Articles of 2019

Last year, you just couldn’t get enough of Europe! From looking for off-the-radar destinations to knowing what to wear, there was no end to Europe inspiring your adventures in 2019. Now that we’re well into a new year and decade (and possibly already thinking about our future travels) 2019’s top travel articles will certainly come in handy!

1. The capsule travel wardrobe you all needed

The perfect wardrobe for travelling in Europe is practical, stylish and comfortable. With baggage rules and weight allowances always in flux, we showed you how to build a capsule wardrobe to take the stress away from packing. It was your favourite article from last year, and we were happy to play stylist.

2. The least-visited countries in Europe

In 2019, you wanted to see a lesser-known side of Europe. With the onus being put on travellers to do their bit in combating overtourism, this article is perhaps even more critical now. Experience the culture and magic of this destination without contributing to the crowds by discovering these up-and-coming countries instead.

3. The year to plan a trip with friends

It’s a simple experiment, but if you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out! When you bring travel and friends together, the experience is awesome – to strengthen our argument we’ve got 99 quotes that say so. Because, if there’s one thing we learned in 2019, and we quote: “life was meant for good friends and great adventures.”

4. Walk hard, play hard

Thank you for inspiring us to get off our butts in 2020! We weren’t too surprised to learn that one of our top travel articles from last year was about the hardest hikes in the USA – you people just can’t get enough of exploring our beautiful world on foot.

5. Croatian island hoppers

Because you loved island hopping in Croatia that much last year, we’ve updated this story for 2020. So which Croatian island is now at number one? You’ll have to read the article to find out.

6. The future of solo female travel

This article made a big impact on our editorial team and our readers. For International Women’s Day last year, we explored how solo female travel can help tip the scales towards gender equality. Sharing travel stories by women is a massive part of Days to Come, you’ll see that many of our writers are female and we’ve cultivated a space where they can share their stories with all of you.

In this article, we look at research undertaken by Dr Elaine CL Yang and Dr Catheryn Khoo-Lattimore to shed light on how culture, trends and shifting views are shaping the next era of solo female travel. In the age of “feel-good feminism” is female travel the answer to celebrating and empowering women all year round?

7. The world’s most interesting journeys

There’s never been a greater need for sustainable travel in 2020 and beyond. You can travel in a way that doesn’t harm our planet, which is maybe why this article was such a hit last year. The world’s most interesting journeys also happen to be overland – which means you can experience the valuable and transformative nature of travel while taking care of our planet. From travelling the Silk Road and the Hippie Trail to exploring Route 66, these journeys will change your life.

8. 24/7 in Europe

If you think you’ll end up in Europe for a week at some point this year, this is the article you need. Find out everything from putting together an itinerary, planning your trip to knowing when to visit and local tips and tricks.

We can’t wait to see where 2020 takes us, and we’re hoping you’ll join us on our adventures. What were your favourite articles from last year? Share them with us in the comments!
