Car review of new BMW X3 XDrive 20D: On-track, but not offbeat

New BMW X3 XDrive 20D It’s love at first sight. The striking design language of the new BMW X3—featuring a bold front with a double kidney grille, adaptive LED headlights and fog-lamps, and the expressive rear that has LED tail-lights combined with a low-slung roof spoiler and exhaust tailpipes on both sides in chrome—attracts attention wherever it goes. The X3, in its third generation now, reflects a new, youthful BMW. What is the X3? It’s a premium midsize sports activity vehicle—BMW calls its SUV-shaped vehicles as SAV. It was first launched…

2018 BMW 6-series GT review, road test

Make : BMW Model : 6-series GT We Like Roomy cabin Excellent ride quality Strong petrol engine We Don’t Like Shape not to all tastes No diesel engine as yet Odd spare tyre position Remember the last-gen BMW 5-series Gran Turismo? If you don’t, you aren’t alone. Developed to complement the standard 5-series sedan, the 5GT promised to offer all that the 5 was renowned for in a more luxurious and spacious package. Trouble was BMW found few takers for the 5GT’s oddball design, and even in India, sales were limited at…

2018 BMW 6-series GT India review, test drive

There’s always been a huge chasm, in India, between the mid-size luxury sedans – the 5-series, E-class, A6 and XF, and their larger, limousine siblings – the 7-series, S-class, A8, and XJ. This is partially because those larger cars get larger engines, but more so because they’re only sold in India in their stretched, long-wheelbase guises. The result is, if you wanted to upgrade from the lesser segment to the bigger one, you had to double your budget! Imagine a price gap of Rs 50 lakh from one class to…

BMW has started work on a new generation version of the X4, as seen in the recent spy shots of the one of the prototypes. Now, what we have here are pictures of the controversially designed crossover with the M-Sport design pack. The SAC (Sports Activity Coupe) has been spotted in Munich and the light camouflage covering the test car suggests it won’t be too long until official debut. Underneath, we will find the CLAR architecture, which is set to become the backbone of all BMW models from the 3-Series…

2019 BMW X4 spotted during testing

BMW looks set to update its X4 crossover and ahead of the major update this mid-level model has been spotted doing the rounds in Europe. There aren’t expected to be many changes to the looks but it will be underpinned by a new platform that it will share with the next generation X3. Our images indicate a swirly camouflage but not over bits like the kidney grille, head lamps and lights. This pattern likely indicates that there will be some changes to the bumpers and probably the doors but this…

BMW 4 Series Coupe review

On paper, the BMW 4 Series is essentially a two-door coupe version of the 3 Series, but there’s enough differences to justify the name change.  It’s a class act all round, with a top-drawer engine range that delivers great performance and economy, and composed yet entertaining rear-wheel drive handling. The 4 Series is also a very practical car for a two-door coupe, with usable rear seats and a decent boot. And if you want even more versatility, then the 4 Series Gran Coupe offers four doors but a similarly sleek…

BMW M5 verdict and specs

Should I buy one? The early signs – and that’s strictly all these are – are very good indeed. The new BMW M5 seems to lose nothing by adopting four-wheel drive, and gains one of the most sophisticated and versatile drivelines ever seen on a performance saloon, which seems to be able to make the car’s handling as surefooted or as lurid as the occasion demands. Overall, the car looks like it will continue to mix everyday refinement and civility with speed and driver thrills to slightly more mature effect…
