4 Instagram Travel Couples On How They Turned Their Passion Into Their Career

Travel is one of Instagram’s most popular verticals for a reason. From the comfort of your phone you can explore some of the most beautiful places on the planet, and daydream about your next vacation. A comment frequently seen on the platform is something along the lines of “I wish I could travel for a living” or “I would love to quit my job and see the world.” While that’s just a fantasy for many, a few couples on Instagram have actually taken the plunge and done just that — made traveling their life and simultaneously their online social identity. I spoke to four popular Instagram couples about how they committed to living remotely, and how they went from taking photos for fun to getting paid for content. Interestingly some of the couples I interviewed look like they are permanently living out of a suitcase but actually have day jobs. Like in so many instances things may not always be what they seem on Instagram.

When did you realize that you could turn your travels together into a business?

We never had any intentions of using our Instagram as a business at the start. A genuine love for travel and a passion for creating beautiful content for friends and family was our only drive. We loved the fact that we could share our story with anybody who was willing to listen and potentially inspire people to get out there and learn about the world. We made a conscious decision towards the end of 2017 to focus on how we could turn something that we were passionate about into something that we could make a living out of.

This decision didn’t come to mind until we started to see real potential. At around 30,000 followers we could see that people were starting to become really interested in our story and our audience was growing rapidly every day. We thought that if we concentrated on being more consistent and provided more value to our followers then we could build something special.
