The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is a massive seller, with over 15,000 copies finding homes in India each month. High sales means that a large number of Balenos end up in the modification circuit. Today, we have yet another Baleno but one that’s pure SWAG. Though the purists may call it riced, this is a car that looks like no other Baleno on Indian roads.
The ‘scissor door’ is the showstopping feature on this car. It also wears a body kit with customized front and rear bumpers. The car’s stanced to sit lower than stock, and this really goes well with the new bumpers, alloy wheels and lower profile tyres.
On the whole, this modified Baleno looks fast even while standing still. Oh-so-sporty – this is how this car can be described. Details on what engine it runs or whether there are performance mods on this particular Baleno aren’t available yet.
We won’t be surprised to find at least a few modifications under the hood considering how racy the car has been modified to be. The stock Baleno is available with three engine options, and two transmission options. The premium hatchback is also sold with a high-performance RS variant, and is in fact the best selling hot hatch in the Indian market.
The regular Baleno uses a 1.2 liter, naturally aspirated petrol engine with 82 Bhp of peak power and 114 Nm of peak torque. A 5 speed manual gearbox is standard while a CVT automatic gearbox is offered as an option with this motor.
The diesel variants of the car use a 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged engine with 74 Bhp and 190 Nm. Again, a 5 speed manual gearbox is standard with this engine but there’s no automatic gearbox option. The range topper is the 1 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 101 Bhp and 150 Nm. This motor is offered on the RS variant, and gets a 5 speed manual gearbox. The RS variant of the Baleno also gets stiffer suspension for better handling.
